Woodford Reserve

Woodford Reserve was inspired by generations of experience and crafted with an intentional vision. After 125 years of whiskey-making experience, Brown-Forman took on the challenge of creating a new Kentucky bourbon whiskey – one with a distinct and unique purpose. Through the restoration of its historic distillery in Woodford County, Kentucky, Woodford Reserve has pushed the boundaries of what modern whiskey brands can and should be.

Woodford Reserve uses iron-free, limestone-filtered spring water, which is full of rich minerals that are key in their unique fermentation process. Kentucky’s climate and watershed make it the best place in the world to make bourbon whiskey. This unique water source contributes to building the overall flavour of Woodford Reserve. The best grains make the best bourbon. Woodford Reserve is made with 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley. Grain recipe is uniquely defined by their it’s rye content. Fermentation process lasts for up to 7 days, which is among the longest in the industry. Slower fermentation allows Woodford Reserve to develop a complex range of flavours. What is sacrificed in time, is rewarded in quality. Imported from Scotland, copper pot stills go about their business with a quiet determination, giving Woodford Reserve the deep, robust flavour it’s known for. The only hint of their efforts comes in the hiss and pressure of triple-pot distillation. Whiskey’s dynamic flavour combination is crafted using both triple-pot distillation and double-distillation in a column thumper still. Tucked deep in the heart of Woodford County hides one of the oldest steam-heated barrel houses in Kentucky. Their barrel houses were built to encourage the mingling of bourbon and wood. The perfectly balanced taste of their Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is comprised of more than 200 detectable flavour notes, from bold grain and wood, to sweet aromatics, spice, and fruit and floral notes.

APPEARANCE: Clean, brilliant honey amber.

NOSE: Heavy with rich dried fruit, hints of mint and oranges, covered with a dusting of cocoa. Faint vanilla and tobacco spice.

TASTE: Rich, chewy, rounded and smooth, with complex citrus, cinnamon and cocoa. Toffee, caramel, chocolate and spice notes abound.

FINISH: Silky smooth, almost creamy at first with a long, warm satisfying tail.
