In 1703 Sir John Gay Alleyne started the production of rum on the Island of Barbados. According to this historical year Mount Gay Rum is the world’s oldest trademark of rum. The drink is made by single and double pot distillation and this matures in small oak casks manufactured in the State of Kentucky in the United States of America. To manufacture 1703 Old Cask Selection rum Master Blender Allen Smith chose the best rums produced of the oldest Mount Gay rum stock by single and double distillation.
44- year old rum was needed to achieve both the balanced and harmonious mixture. The oldest rums in this rum mixture are 30 years old.
